Fotografiska, Contemporary photography museum in Stockholm, Sweden.
Fotografiska is a photography center housed in a former customs building along the Stockholm waterfront. The red brick walls and tall windows from 1906 shape the rooms across several floors with views over the water.
The customs house was built in 1906 in Art Nouveau style and served maritime trade for decades before reopening as a photography museum in 2010. The conversion kept the maritime character and transformed it into a space for visual art.
The name comes from the Swedish word for photography and connects art with a meeting point where visitors from many countries gather. The top-floor restaurant offers views over the harbor and functions as a social space where people meet after viewing the shows.
The building opens daily until late evening and offers several exhibition rooms on different floors. A restaurant on the uppermost level invites visitors to linger and complements the tour.
The exhibitions rotate regularly and present both famous and lesser-known photographers from around the world. Many visitors discover works here they would not see elsewhere and appreciate the open approach without a permanent collection.
