Vanås Castle

Vanås Castle is a medieval fortress in Östra Göinge surrounded by gardens and grounds with stone walls and Nordic architectural features. The estate includes multiple historical buildings and displays around 70 permanent art installations made from materials such as diabas and bronze.

Construction began in the 15th century when the castle served as a residence for regional nobility and local governance. The estate evolved over subsequent centuries, remaining an important regional landmark throughout its long history.

The castle grounds have functioned as an art venue since 1987, with contemporary works integrated throughout its historical spaces and outdoor areas. Sculptures and installations appear across the property, creating a dialogue between old structures and modern creative expression.

The grounds are straightforward to explore, with art installations distributed across gardens and around historical buildings. Visitors should wear appropriate footwear since the natural terrain varies in evenness across the property.

A striking work is the Cow Chapel by Kari Cavén, an unusual art installation housed within the historical structures. This blend of religion, humor, and craftsmanship creates a memorable moment during a visit.
