Alskog Church

Alskog Church is a medieval religious building in Gotland featuring two central columns that divide the nave into sections. A vaulted ceiling spans the interior, creating distinct spaces within the structure.

Construction of Alskog Church began in the early 13th century with the nave, and the building was completed with the tower and choir around 1300. These additions show how the community expanded it as needs changed over time.

The church displays preserved stained glass windows from the 13th century showing scenes from Jesus's life, along with medieval sculptures from a 14th-century altarpiece. These crafted works reflect the devotion of the people who commissioned them centuries ago.

This place is regularly open and serves the local Garde parish community through regular services and ceremonies. Visitors should dress respectfully and be mindful of any ongoing religious activities.

Two embroidered collection bags from Istanbul dated 1775 remain in the church, given by a priest whose father served as pastor there. These textiles connect the building to distant trade routes and family histories across generations.
