Kaknästornet, Television tower in Ladugårdsgärdet, Sweden.
Kaknästornet is a television tower in Ladugårdsgärdet in Stockholm in Sweden and rises 155 meters above the surrounding area. The reinforced concrete structure serves as a central broadcasting point for Swedish television and radio stations.
Bengt Lindroos designed the tower, which was completed in 1967 and remained the tallest structure in the Nordic countries until 1971. After Näsinneula in Finland opened, it lost that status to the new construction.
Following architectural trends of the 1960s, the tower exhibits strong Brutalist design elements through its raw concrete surfaces and geometric forms.
The tower has been permanently closed to visitors since 2018 due to security measures protecting the national broadcasting infrastructure. Anyone wishing to photograph or document the building has required special permission since 2019.
The building contains 30 floors dedicated exclusively to communication operations with no public areas inside. The brutalist design elements appear through raw concrete surfaces and geometric forms that were typical of 1960s architecture.
