Folke Bernadotte's Bridge, Footbridge and bicycle bridge in Djurgården, Sweden.
Folke Bernadotte's Bridge is a footbridge and cycling path in Djurgården that crosses Djurgårdsbrunn Bay to link Museiparken with Rosendal. The 88-meter structure uses a three-span vaulted beam design in stainless steel, with a clearance of 3 meters above water to allow boat traffic to pass underneath.
A pontoon bridge first crossed this location in 1820 when King Karl XIV Johan built it to connect his military training grounds with Rosendal Palace. That original structure operated until 1848 before being replaced by modern infrastructure.
The bridge honors Count Folke Bernadotte, the first United Nations mediator after World War II, who lived near Museiparken in Stockholm.
Crossing this bridge on foot or by bicycle is straightforward and saves time when moving between the two sections of Djurgården. Access is freely available and the route is easy to navigate without special planning.
This modern bridge opened in September 2019 with the Swedish royal family making the first ceremonial walk across it. The structure replaces a pontoon bridge that had served the same location for nearly 2 centuries before.
