Älvsborg Fortress, Coastal fortress at Gothenburg harbor, Sweden
The fortress contains two 24-centimeter guns and multiple 15-centimeter gun turrets positioned strategically at the mouth of the Göta River.
Construction began in 1899 and concluded in 1907, featuring Oscar II's Fort as the main defensive structure to protect Gothenburg's port against naval attacks.
The Geatish Society donated a light battery called Götiska batteriet, which remained operational even after other guns were relocated in 1939.
The fortress includes several hundred meters of walkways connecting offices, lodgings, stores, and spaces that accommodated up to 300 people.
During World War II, the fortress shifted from its military role to serve as storage until the 1970s, when internal deterioration led to its closure.
