Taubehuset, Göteborg

Taubehuset is a two-story timber building in the Majorna district with a broken roofline and two dormer windows. The structure measures 27 meters long and 7.5 meters wide, and now functions as a residence with three apartments on the upper floor.

Built in 1796 as an office and residence for the Warfvet Kusten shipyard, the building served as headquarters for shipbuilding operations until 1893. It later became associated with poet Evert Taube and survived as a cultural landmark.

The building is connected to poet and musician Evert Taube, whose personal objects and creative works are displayed in a preserved room on the upper floor. This space reflects the life of an artist who left a mark on the city.

The building sits near the harbor and is easily accessible from the street. Keep in mind this is an active residence, so visitors should check ahead about viewing opportunities and be respectful of current inhabitants.

In the 1960s, the entire building was relocated 100 meters to save it from demolition during harbor expansion. This dramatic rescue shows how much the city valued the structure for its cultural heritage.
