Uddevalla Municipality

Uddevalla Municipality is a coastal area along the southeastern edge of Skagerrak bay in western Sweden, combining land and water territories. It consists of several former communities now joined as one administrative unit, with a main town center and several smaller settlements spread across the region.

This municipality took its present form in 1971 when the city of Uddevalla merged with surrounding areas. This consolidation created the larger administrative region that exists today.

The town of Uddevalla and its surroundings have long been shaped by maritime traditions that remain visible in how residents and visitors move through and use these coastal spaces. The relationship with the sea continues to influence the daily rhythm and character of the region.

When visiting, you can walk along the coastline, explore the beaches, or drive through the various small towns to experience different parts of the municipality. The best way to experience the region is to travel slowly through the settlements and stop along the way to take in the coastal views and local centers.

The beaches here contain one of the world's largest shell banks, where sand is mixed with massive deposits of seashells. This natural feature creates an unusual landscape that becomes apparent as you walk along the coast.
