Nils Ericson Terminal, Bus terminal in central Gothenburg, Sweden
Nils Ericson Terminal is a modern bus station in central Gothenburg with separate areas for different transport networks. The facility combines regional and international bus services in one location and is a major transit hub for the city.
The terminal opened in 1995 and received a national architecture prize the following year for its design. The building by architect Niels Torp set new standards for bus stations and shaped the character of central Gothenburg.
The terminal takes its name from Nils Ericson, a Swedish inventor whose work shaped transportation engineering. Visitors see daily commuters and travelers using the building as a vital hub for their journeys.
The building functions with separated arrival and departure areas, making orientation straightforward for visitors. The facilities were designed with accessibility and clear wayfinding in mind for all travelers.
The terminal features a fully climate-controlled indoor area where passengers board buses directly through gates, similar to an airport setup. This airport-terminal concept was unusual for European bus stations when it opened.
