Bergslagsbanans station, Railway station building in Gothenburg, Sweden.
Bergslagsbanans station is a two-story railway building in Gothenburg featuring Renaissance revival design. The facade displays plastered brick walls, rusticated stonework, and round-arched windows on the ground floor.
Architects Axel and Hjalmar Kumlien designed this building for Bergslagernas Järnvägar, which opened for service in 1881 and operated the railway for about 50 years. After the railway closed, it underwent various uses before becoming a regional administration building in 2017.
The building shapes the character of the Gullbergsvass neighborhood with its crafted details and Renaissance-inspired design. The decorative stucco and wrought iron work are visible throughout and reflect the skill of past artisans.
The building is located at Bergslagsgatan 2 in the Gullbergsvass area and functions as office space. While no longer open for station use, the exterior remains visible as you walk through the neighborhood.
Above the right entrance sits the crest of Bergslagernas Järnvägar, a visible mark of railway history. This detail connects the site to an important chapter in Sweden's railway development during the 1800s.
