Axevalla House, Medieval castle ruins in Skara Municipality, Sweden.

Axevalla House is a medieval castle site in Skara Municipality, situated on a headland near Lake Husesjön. The stone structures include fortifications, ramparts, and moats that formed the original defensive system.

The castle was first documented in 1278 and witnessed the imprisonment of Magnus Ladulås during a feast hosted by Peter Porse. This event reveals the political conflicts of the era and the site's importance as a display of power.

The site appears in Erik Dahlbergh's Suecia antiqua et hodierna, a 17th-century collection of engravings depicting Swedish monuments. These historical depictions show how important this location was to Sweden's cultural memory.

The site sits along road 49 between Skara and Skövde with direct access from the roadside. You can visit anytime throughout the year without restrictions or special arrangements needed.

Stone roads leading to the castle were ringed by swamps, while wooden palisades extended into the lake for extra protection. This dual strategy shows how early defenders used their natural surroundings to their advantage.
