Dalénum, Residential district in Lidingö Municipality, Sweden
Dalénum is a residential area in Lidingö Municipality situated along Lilla Värtan waterfront and features a blend of homes, office buildings, and preserved industrial structures. The district spreads along the shore, creating a mixed streetscape where contemporary spaces sit alongside historic factory architecture.
The site was home to AGA's industrial operations until 1937, where inventor Gustaf Dalén created innovations that gave the area its current name. Following the end of manufacturing, the grounds were transformed into a mixed residential and commercial development while key structures were preserved.
The working-class heritage remains visible in how the district is organized around former factory blocks and communal spaces. Visitors can see this past reflected in the building layout and the way the waterfront connects residential areas to what were once busy production zones.
The area connects to Stockholm via the Lidingöbanan tram at AGA station, with ferry service and bus lines also available for reaching the district. These multiple transport options make it straightforward to visit and explore the waterfront location from different directions.
A lighthouse tower rises 68 meters (223 feet) high and serves as Lidingö's tallest structure, visible from across the water and surrounding areas. This landmark symbolizes how the former industrial zone has transformed into a modern residential neighborhood.
