Villervallan, Historic residential building in Ladugårdsgärdet, Sweden
Villervallan is a residential complex with two wooden buildings on Kaknäsvägen overlooking the waters of Lilla Värtan. The seven apartments are divided between the northern and southern structures and form a historically protected housing community in Ladugårdsgärdet.
The southern building was constructed in 1838, followed by the northern structure in 1857, both emerging on a site shaped by maritime history. Their development grew from activities involving salvage and reuse of vessels that once occupied this waterfront area.
The buildings stand out for their traditional wooden construction typical of Stockholm's older residential neighborhoods. You can see how the water views were preserved as a key feature when homes were arranged on the waterfront.
The complex sits directly on Kaknäsvägen with easy access to the waterfront and surrounding pathways. The location is within an established residential area with sidewalks and clear visibility from the street.
The name comes from the Vikingavallen ship, which caught fire at Skeppsbron in 1823 and was later converted into a bathhouse. This surprising transformation of a burned vessel into a public bathing spot happened before the residential buildings were eventually built on the site.
