Folkets Hus Stockholm, Community and arts center in central Stockholm, Sweden
Folkets Hus Stockholm is a cultural and events center in central Stockholm with distinctive architectural features. The building has a large eye-shaped skylight above its central atrium and pale green steel walls that stand out sharply against the surrounding red brick buildings.
The original building dated from 1901 and included a theater, but was demolished in 1955 as capacity could no longer meet demand. The larger facility built in its place was designed to serve a city undergoing rapid change.
The center functions as a meeting point for exhibitions, concerts, and social events that draw regular visitors from across Stockholm. Its role in the city becomes visible through the varied programs that bring together people of different backgrounds.
The center is located at Barnhusgatan 12-14, near the Drottninggatan shopping street with good access to public transportation. The central location makes it easy to attend events or explore the surrounding neighborhoods.
The building features triangular windows inspired by tent structures, echoing the historical Copper Tents in Hagapark from the 18th century. This design detail links modern architecture with a lesser-known aspect of Stockholm's past.
