Josefinelust

Josefinelust is a stone beach located on the Kullaberg coast, carpeted with rounded pebbles of varying sizes. A long wooden staircase descends through beech forest, providing the main way to reach the water's edge.

Queen Josefina, wife of King Oscar I, visited this coastal area in 1865, and the beach was subsequently named in her honor. This royal visit created a lasting connection between the site and Swedish monarchy.

The place took its name from a royal visit, and this connection shapes how locals and visitors understand the coastal landscape. Walking through the area, you notice how the caves and natural features carry this historical memory forward.

You need sturdy shoes for walking on the stones and something soft to sit on since there is no sand here. The wooden staircase can become slippery when wet, so take care on the descent.

The area contains five natural caves, including Fredrik VII's cave and two formations known as Big and Little Josefinelust grotto. Visitors can explore these caves today and see how the rock formations have shaped the coastline.
