Norra Berget

Norra Berget is an open-air museum in Sundsvall where traditional wooden buildings have been gathered from across the region. The houses and farm structures are spread across the hillside and display how people in northern Sweden once lived and worked.

In the late 1800s, people began collecting old regional buildings and moving them to this site to preserve the past. This gathering effort saved centuries of local craft knowledge and ways of life for people to learn from today.

The site hosts regular demonstrations where visitors watch craftspeople work with traditional techniques used in daily life. These active displays show how people in the region once managed their homes and work.

The grounds are explored on foot and lead visitors up different levels of the hillside. Sturdy shoes are helpful since the paths are uneven and can be slippery when wet.

A concrete observation tower at the summit offers wide views across the city toward the sea and surrounding forests. This modern structure sits in interesting contrast to the old wooden buildings below.
