Norrköpings old water tower, Water tower in Norrköping, Sweden.
Norrköpings old water tower is a circular structure standing about 45 meters tall beside Södra Promenaden. The building features multiple rounded levels and distinctive architectural proportions designed for its original water storage function.
The tower was built between 1904 and 1907 and supplied water to the city until 1980. After that, water operations shifted to a new facility called Kättsätter.
The structure displays text honoring Jacob von Leesen's contribution to Norrköping's water system, representing early municipal infrastructure development.
The structure was converted into 62 student apartments spread across 13 floors between 1999 and 2001. The renovation preserved the exterior while completely reconfiguring the interior.
The apartments inside feature raised platform beds designed to maximize space within the circular floor plans. This solution shows how the renovation cleverly adapted modern living into the building's unusual geometry.
