Parsetjärns skans, Military fortification in Dals-Ed Municipality, Sweden
Parsetjärns skans is a military fortification in Dals-Ed comprising two sections on opposite sides of a lake, connected by stone blocks that form an anti-tank barrier. The site contains concrete bunkers, firing positions, and specialized shooting structures designed to defend against potential invasion threats.
Swedish military engineers built this defense structure between 1940 and 1943 to prevent potential German invasion following Norway's occupation. The fortification was part of a larger border defense system protecting Swedish territory.
The fortification reflects Swedish military thinking during World War II, with concrete structures positioned strategically near the Norwegian border. Visitors can observe how soldiers were meant to defend this area using the layout and construction still visible today.
The northern section is open year-round with parking and information boards on-site to guide visitors. Wear suitable footwear since the ground is uneven, featuring earth and grass terrain throughout the area.
The site features thirteen shooting trenches and a specialized kg-hatt bunker designed for machine gun use at close range. This bunker type was a typical Swedish solution for close-distance defense during World War II.
