Scharinska villa, Victorian residence in Umeå, Sweden.
Scharinska villa is a three-story pink residence featuring ornamental architectural details typical of the Victorian style. The ground floor displays arched windows and wrought iron balconies, while a distinctive gabled crest crowns the top of the facade.
The villa was designed by architect Ragnar Östberg in 1904 for the Unander-Scharin family and completed the following year. It emerged during a period when prosperous industrialists commissioned such grand residences as symbols of their economic success.
The Spanish Hall showcases walls decorated with imported Spanish mosaics, creating a striking contrast to the wooden paneling found throughout the rest of the rooms. These spaces reveal how the family expressed their wealth and cosmopolitan tastes through their home.
The building is publicly owned and viewing requires advance arrangements through official channels. Group visits and guided tours can be organized, though scheduling should be confirmed ahead of time.
The front entrance features a relief sculpture showing seven children's faces nestled in foliage, representing members of the Scharin family who first lived here. This personal artistic touch transforms an ordinary entryway into a reminder of the family's presence.
