Skridskopaviljongen, Historic brick pavilion in Kastellholmen, Sweden.
Skridskopaviljongen is a historic brick pavilion located on the island of Kastellholmen, designed with steep roof slopes, decorated brick walls, turrets, and towers. Its romantic castle-like character sets it apart from other military structures in the area.
The building was constructed in 1882 by the marine administration based on architect Adolf Emil Melander's designs. It originally served as a warming house where royal ice skaters could rest and warm themselves.
The building shows how ice skating became a refined social activity in the mid-1800s, drawing Stockholm's wealthier families to gather here. Its location on an island and romantic design reveal it was built for a specific social group.
The space can accommodate up to 42 seated guests or 75 standing guests for events. Event packages include catering services and technical equipment for hosting various celebrations and gatherings.
From 1926 to 1971, the Navy Band regularly performed music in these halls, giving it a new identity as an arts venue. This musical chapter added an unexpected cultural dimension to its original purpose as a skating house.
