Fantastic Paradise, Sculpture series on Skeppsholmen island, Stockholm, Sweden
Fantastic Paradise is a collection of 15 large sculptures on Skeppsholmen island, consisting of nine colorful figures and six mechanical pieces. These works are permanently installed outdoors in an open-air exhibition that visitors can explore freely at any time.
The collection debuted at the 1967 Universal Expo in Montreal before traveling to New York and eventually settling on Skeppsholmen. This journey transformed the works from a temporary exhibition into a permanent installation.
The sculptures represent a dialogue between life and destruction through the contrast of rounded, colorful forms against dark mechanical structures. Walking through the space, you can observe how these opposing artistic voices interact.
The sculptures are accessible year-round and free to visit since they are displayed outdoors on public grounds. Wear comfortable shoes as the terrain can be uneven, and plan time to walk around the full site.
The mechanical pieces were designed to move with the wind, shifting positions with each visitor. This means that no two visits to the space are ever exactly the same.
