Moderna Museet, Art museum in Skeppsholmen, Sweden
Moderna Museet is an art museum on Skeppsholmen island in Stockholm, focusing on the 20th and 21st centuries. The collection includes paintings, prints, art videos, and photographs by international artists.
The institution opened in 1958 and moved into a building designed by Rafael Moneo in 1998. The relocation marked a new phase after four years of construction.
The museum takes its name from the Swedish word for modern and shows how this art form developed during the 20th century. Visitors experience direct access to the most important movements in contemporary art.
The venue opens Tuesdays and Fridays until 8 p.m., Wednesdays and Thursdays until 6 p.m., and stays closed on Mondays. The galleries spread over several floors, so plan enough time for your visit.
Outside, sculptures by international artists connect art with the naval surroundings of the island. The park invites a walk among the installations while looking out over the water.
