Skeppsholmen Church, Neoclassical concert hall on Skeppsholmen island, Sweden.
Skeppsholmen Church is a neoclassical concert hall on the Stockholm island of Skeppsholmen, featuring an octagonal design crowned by a large dome. The white facade displays four columned portals, symmetrical Palladian windows, and balanced proportions throughout.
The building opened in 1842, designed by brothers Fredrik and Gustav Adolf Blom to replace a wooden church lost to fire. The new structure reflected contemporary architectural ideals and became part of Stockholm's evolving cultural landscape.
The building now houses the Eric Ericson International Choral Centre, where concerts and musical events shape the artistic life on the island. The space connects its original purpose with contemporary cultural expression.
The building sits on Skeppsholmen island and can be reached by crossing Skeppsholmsbron bridge from central Stockholm, allowing a walk through the area. Visitors will find a refined setting shaped by concert programs and artistic activities.
Inside, a wooden double cupola rests on paired Doric columns, displaying rare craftsmanship that creates an intimate overhead space. Niches holding apostle statues and plaster compositions add sculptural richness to the interior.
