Stora Rängen

Stora Rängen is a freshwater lake near Linköping with a surface area of about 11 square kilometers and a maximum depth of about 23 meters near the Vessers udde nature reserve. Water quality is good despite slight coloration, making it suitable for various recreational activities year-round.

The lake was originally known as Kinden and had connections to the Småland region. Water levels were altered through Kinda Canal construction in the mid-19th century.

The eastern shore is marked by Bjärka Säby Castle, which defines the landscape. In winter, residents use the frozen surface for ice skating.

The lake is easily accessible and offers good conditions for activities like boating, fishing, and swimming. Visitors should note that the best conditions exist during warmer months when water sports are most comfortable.

The lake receives water from about 99 smaller tributary areas, highlighting its role as an important water system for the surrounding region. These many connections make it a complex water network that extends far beyond its visible borders.
