Sportpalatset, Office and apartment building in Kungsholmen, Stockholm, Sweden
Sportpalatset is a 58-meter high office and apartment building in Kungsholmen featuring a domed roof topped with a Swedish Swimming Federation sculpture at Sankt Eriksgatan. The complex contains 59 apartments of different sizes and includes a courtyard with a petanque court, grill areas, and outdoor facilities.
The building was designed by architect Jean Sigfrid Adrian between 1929 and 1930 as a modern landmark with innovative features. Its original design included an indoor swimming pool that was the largest in Northern Europe at that time.
The building housed Polar Studios where ABBA recorded their final albums, and nature painter Bruno Liljefors maintained his residence in the top-floor apartment, using the space as a creative studio with natural light.
The building is located in Kungsholmen, a central neighborhood that is easy to explore on foot, with Sankt Eriksgatan providing good orientation. Access to the courtyard and public spaces is straightforward, as these areas serve as regular gathering spots for residents and visitors.
The painter on the top floor kept his windows open and offered fish and meat to attract wild birds directly into his apartment, which served as his studio. This unusual practice was central to his artistic process and shaped how he used the space creatively.
