Slottsskogens vattentorn

Slottskogen water tower is a cylindrical stone structure positioned on a hilltop within the park, topped with a circular viewing platform accessible by stairs. The building was constructed to store water for neighborhood use while incorporating a public vantage point.

The structure was built around 1900 to supply water to the Masthugget area and prevent fire emergencies. It represents an early example of combining practical infrastructure with public recreation in urban design.

The structure stands as a landmark where locals and visitors connect with the city's industrial past and natural surroundings. It represents how the community values both practical infrastructure and public gathering spaces.

The viewing platform is open during summer months, and visitors can climb the interior stairs to reach the top for city and river views. Wear comfortable shoes since the climb involves multiple flight of stairs in a confined space.

The building was among the first viewing towers in Gothenburg and combined two functions from its inception as both water storage and public vantage point. This dual purpose was an innovative approach to urban infrastructure at the time.
