Migovec System, Cave system in Municipality of Tolmin, Slovenia
The Migovec System is an extensive cave network within the limestone formations of Mount Tolmin Migovec in Slovenia. The underground passages stretch across significant distances and descend to considerable depths beneath the mountain.
The cave system was explored and mapped starting in the 1990s through cooperation between international researchers and local mountaineers. These partnerships led to extensive expeditions that documented the network and discovered new passages.
The Tolmin Mountaineering Club maintains records and conducts regular expeditions to study the geological formations and document new passages within the system.
Access requires advanced caving experience, specialized equipment such as helmets with lights, and coordination with local caving organizations. Visitors should be aware that conditions underground are demanding and can vary depending on the season.
Multiple cave entrances at different elevations connect to form one of the longest systems of its kind in the region. The discovery of new connections between previously isolated sections led to a reassessment of the network's overall size.
