Built between 1891 and 1899, the barracks initially housed the 27th Domobranska Infantry Regiment of Austria-Hungary before transitioning through various military occupations.
The structure represents the evolution of Slovenian military architecture and stands as a testament to the changing political landscape of Central Europe.
Located near Roška cesta and Poljanska cesta, the eastern section now contains the Archives of Slovenia and the Restoration Center.
During the 1988 JBTZ trial, the barracks gained national attention as a site of significant demonstrations that influenced Slovenia's path to independence.
