Haasberg Castle

Haasberg Castle sits above the Unica River gorge as a collection of stone foundations and wall remnants from the 1600s. The structures occupy different levels on the hillside, revealing how the mansion once spread across the steep slopes.

The Eggenberg family built this mansion in the early 1600s, replacing an older castle that earthquakes had damaged beyond repair. Their construction reflected a fresh approach to noble housing in this geological region.

The site is open year-round with no entry fees or advance booking required. The terrain is uneven with loose stones, so wearing sturdy footwear helps when walking through the ruins.

A preserved stable building on the grounds now holds objects discovered during excavations at the site. These finds offer clues about the daily life and material conditions of those who lived here.
