Domica Cave, Cave entrance in Slovak Karst National Park, Slovakia

Domica Cave is an underground system with oval-shaped corridors and spacious chambers containing natural stone formations. The passages wind through limestone layers and reveal the geological layers beneath the surface.

People inhabited this cave during the Stone Age, leaving behind tools and other objects that were unearthed in the 20th century. Archaeological work in that era revealed the long human presence within these passages.

The cave held spiritual meaning for the people who lived here thousands of years ago, as evidenced by the marks and remains they left behind in the stone. Walking through the passages today, you can still see where these ancient inhabitants carved or drew on the walls.

Wear sturdy shoes because the paths are wet and sometimes narrow as they pass through the passages. Bring a jacket since the underground stays cool year-round regardless of the season outside.

The cave continues beyond the border and connects to a larger underground network that stretches across two countries. This cross-border system makes it a rare example of how geology ignores political boundaries.
