Veľká lúka, Mountain summit in Žilina District, Slovakia.
Veľká lúka is a mountain summit in the Lúčanská section of the Little Fatra range, standing at 1475.5 meters elevation. The peak is surrounded by alpine meadows and forest that shape the character of this highland area.
The summit once hosted a major broadcast tower that served the region for many years. This communications infrastructure left its mark on the mountain's landscape and use.
The mountain stands as a natural gateway to numerous cultural sites, including the Martin Benka Museum and the Matica slovenská institution.
Marked trails approach the summit from several directions, starting from villages like Kunerad and Bystrička or from the mountain hut Chata Martinské hole. Sturdy footwear is recommended, especially on the upper sections where the ground becomes boggy and wet.
The peak is known for its wet bogs and specialized plant life, including dwarf shrubs and extensive blueberry patches. These boggy habitats on the upper slopes make the mountain a habitat for adapted alpine plants.
