Vysílač Krížava, Television and radio transmitter in Little Fatra Mountains, Slovakia
Vysílač Krížava is a broadcasting station in the Little Fatra Mountains located at 1451 meters elevation. The facility consists of a 116-meter steel transmission tower and a separate telecommunications building positioned between Žilina and Martin.
The station began broadcasting in January 1970 as a major technological advancement for the region. It was the first transmitter in Czechoslovakia to send color television signals to its audiences.
The mountainous location intersects multiple hiking paths maintained by KST, connecting local communities through designated forest trails and unpaved roads.
The site sits along established mountain hiking trails and can be reached via forest paths. Visitors should prepare for higher elevation, changing weather conditions, and wear appropriate footwear.
The facility functions as a crucial link in a north-south relay route connecting major urban centers. This network extended signal reach across Slovakia and into neighboring territories beyond typical broadcast boundaries.
