Krížava, Mountain summit in Malá Fatra range, Slovakia
Krížava is a 1456 meter peak in the Malá Fatra range with a flat summit plateau covered in dwarf pine and mixed forests. The slopes descend gradually and remain fully forested on all sides.
This peak has long served as a natural boundary between Žilina and Martin districts. The location shaped regional settlement patterns and influenced how communities on each side developed.
Local mountaineering traditions include annual ascents to Krížava summit, connecting generations of Slovak outdoor enthusiasts through shared experiences.
Several marked trails reach the summit from Martin-Strání and Kunerad, with one option following the international E3 hiking route. The paths are well signposted and offer moderate difficulty for day hikers.
A transmission station at the summit serves as a critical European air traffic control point. From this vantage point, visitors can see eight different mountain ranges on clear days.
