Kuneradský zámok, Château in Kunerad, Slovakia
Kuneradský zámok is a manor house in the village of Kunerad in northwestern Slovakia, built in the style of French Loire Valley châteaux, with a slate roof and towers. It sits within a landscaped park that wraps around the main building on all sides.
The manor was built between 1914 and 1916 for a wealthy family and was among the first privately owned buildings in the region to have its own power supply. A fire broke out during the fighting in 1944 and left much of the structure badly damaged.
The Loire-style architecture gives the building a look rarely seen in Slovak countryside, making it stand out among local manor houses. The park around it still retains old trees and open lawns that frame the main facade in a way that feels closer to western Europe than central Slovakia.
Restoration work is ongoing at the site, so access to parts of the building or grounds may be limited on any given day. Checking conditions before you arrive will help you make the most of your time there.
The estate originally had a small chapel built within the complex for the exclusive use of its occupants, which was unusual even for large private residences of that period. The property also generated its own electricity through a hydroelectric facility fed by a nearby stream.
