Tiesňavy

Tiesňavy is a protected nature reserve in the Mála Fatra mountains with rocky slopes, old forests, and interesting stone formations. The area sits in mountainous terrain and displays various layers of rock that formed over long periods.

The area became an official protected reserve in 1967 to preserve the Mála Fatra landscape for the future. This decision was part of Slovakia's plan to shield important natural areas from damage.

This protected space shows how nature operates on its own terms, with visitors welcome to observe but not alter what they find. Hikers can witness how mountain forests and cliff faces together create a home for rare species.

Hiking trails wind through the area with clear marks showing where visitors can walk. It is important to follow the markers and respect the rules, as some sections remain closed to protect the environment.

The area contains karst formations, meaning caves and cracks created as water dissolved limestone over time. These special rock structures create rare habitats where plants and animals thrive that are found nowhere else nearby.
