Sokolie, Mountain summit in Little Fatra, Slovakia.
Sokolie is a summit in the Little Fatra range that rises above the Vratna Valley and forms part of a ridge extending about 4.5 kilometers. The northern slope features karst valleys that create a distinctive jagged appearance across the mountainside.
The limestone formations developed over millions of years as the Western Carpathians took shape. During this geological process, water and natural forces carved the valleys and structures visible on the mountain today.
The villages below preserve local mountain ways and host annual gatherings that celebrate folk traditions. Visitors can encounter evidence of shepherding heritage in how the landscape is used and maintained.
The summit can be reached via marked hiking trails from Terchova village or from the Stary Dvor parking area, with routes ranging from 3 to 5 kilometers. Wear sturdy footwear as the terrain is rocky, and conditions change with the seasons.
The northern slope contains a hidden network of underground water systems carved by mountain streams through the limestone. This concealed water system shapes the karst landscape and creates hollows beneath the surface that few visitors notice.
