Muranska planina National Park

The park encompasses limestone plateaus with karst formations, including caves, sinkholes, canyons, and rock towers across 18,516 hectares of protected land.

The area received national park status in 1997, following decades of conservation efforts starting with Ludwig Greiner and Dr. Gustav Reuss in the 19th century.

Ruins of Muran Castle stand on elevated limestone cliffs, representing medieval architecture and regional defense structures from past centuries.

Visitors can access the park through the towns of Tisovec, Muran, and Cervena Skala, with marked hiking trails leading through diverse forest landscapes.

The park contains over 500 caves, 1,480 plant species, and hosts the endemic Daphne arbuscula, which survived millions of years including ice ages.
