Sĺňava Reservoir

Sĺňava Reservoir is a large water body stretching between Piešťany and Drahovce, surrounded by extensive natural areas and wetland zones. The shoreline features both open banks and densely wooded sections, with several small bays and peninsulas creating varied landscape features along the water.

The reservoir was constructed in the late 20th century as a dam project to improve regional water management and provide flood control. Its creation significantly altered the local landscape, transforming the area into a new ecosystem.

The reservoir serves as a gathering place for local residents and visitors throughout the year, with families and groups often spending weekends enjoying the water and surroundings. It functions as a social hub where people from the region come to unwind and connect with nature.

A paved pathway circles the entire reservoir and is open to walkers, cyclists, and skaters looking to explore at their own pace. The warmer months offer the most pleasant conditions for enjoying the route without muddy or wet sections.

The water features an artificial island built specifically as a protected nesting site where gray gulls and river terns breed safely throughout the seasons. This bird refuge remains largely undisturbed and away from visitor activities.
