Hotel Slovan, Art Nouveau palace hotel in Piešťany, Slovakia.
Hotel Slovan is an Art Nouveau palace hotel in Piešťany featuring symmetrical design, bay windows, turrets, arcades, and a distinctive rooftop tower. The building displays ornamental details and grand proportions typical of early 20th-century luxury spa architecture.
Austrian architect Adolf Oberländer designed the building in 1907 for Hungarian cafe owner Adolf Rónai, who opened it as Grand Hotel Rónai. The property underwent renaming in subsequent decades as the spa town continued to develop.
The building acquired its name Slovan during communist times, reflecting the cultural identity of the region. It represents the early luxury spa hotels that shaped how guests experienced this wellness destination.
The building has been in deteriorated condition since the mid-1980s and requires substantial restoration work. Visitors can view it from the exterior while restoration efforts and funding are being arranged.
A 22-meter fountain near the southern entrance remains a distinctive feature of the property. The building once housed a concert hall with special acoustics that served the Piešťany Music Festival.
