Piešťany

Piešťany is a spa town in western Slovakia that draws its character from natural hot springs releasing mineral-rich water at temperatures around 67 degrees Celsius. Visitors come to the thermal facilities for treatments addressing rheumatic and arthritic conditions.

The town appears in written records starting in 1113, though prehistoric people were aware of the hot springs long before. The transformation into a modern spa destination came later once the healing properties of the waters became widely recognized.

The House of Arts is where locals and visitors gather to experience theater, music, and art exhibitions throughout the year. These events shape the cultural rhythm of daily life in town.

The town connects well to major Slovak cities through rail and road networks, making travel convenient from different directions. Visitors should plan ahead for spa treatments and thermal facilities, as these are busier during warmer months.

Nearby excavations uncovered the Venus of Moravany, one of Europe's oldest carved figurines made from mammoth ivory. This sculpture from around 22,800 years ago reveals that humans have lived in this region since prehistoric times.
