Crematorium in Košice

The Crematorium in Košice is a modern funeral facility with stone-covered walls and a distinctive aluminum-edged roof, topped by a sculptural chimney that rises above the surrounding forest. The complex includes a main ceremonial hall with large glass walls, a smaller farewell room, and the adjacent Forest Cemetery of Memories containing around 400 grave sites.

The facility was constructed between 1975 and 1981 under architect Pavol Merjavý's design during a period when Slovak funeral practices were shifting toward new approaches. The building emerged as these changing customs gained wider acceptance in the region.
