Lungi International Airport is Sierra Leone's only airport for international flights, located in the Port Loko region. The facility sits at low elevation near the coast and features a terminal building with a runway capable of handling larger aircraft.
The location was chosen in 1947 to replace Waterloo Airport, whose runway had become unusable. Since then, it has served as the country's primary gateway for international air travel.
