Museo di Stato, State museum in San Marino City, San Marino.
The Museo di Stato occupies four floors of Palazzo Pergami Belluzzi and displays archaeological finds, artworks, sculptures, and coin collections spanning multiple periods. The exhibition is divided into three main sections: donated works, archaeological finds with numismatics, and historical art connected to San Marino.
The museum opened in 1899 at Palazzo Valloni with collections that began accumulating from 1865. The move to its current location in 2001 allowed for a more comprehensive presentation of the holdings.
The museum displays paintings by Guercino and Renaissance works by Francesco Menzocchi alongside artifacts from Egyptian, Etruscan, and Roman times. These pieces show how artistic traditions and ancient cultures come together within a single space.
The entrance is located at Piazzetta del Titano 1 in central San Marino. Visitors should be prepared for staircases between the four floors, so comfortable shoes are advisable.
The numismatic collection displays San Marino coins and medals produced between 1864 and 1938, documenting the republic's monetary evolution. These pieces tell the story of the country's economic independence through its own currency.
