Dembancané stands at approximately 23 meters above sea level near the Senegal River, crossed by the N2 national road connecting Bakel to Matam.
The commune of Dembancané was established in July 2008 through the efforts of Niaky Diélé Soumaré from Wompou, transforming a traditional Soninké village into an autonomous administrative entity.
The local population primarily speaks Soninké while also using Pular and French, maintaining ancestral traditions and social structures of this community across generations.
The commune features a health center with maternity services, primary and secondary schools, a post office, pharmacy, and two water boreholes for local supply.
Since March 2020, Dembancané houses a four-room guesthouse to promote local tourism, complementing its recent infrastructural development initiatives in the region.
