Prakhon Chai

Prakhon Chai is an administrative district located in southern Buri Ram that covers roughly 890 square kilometers across sixteen sub-districts. The area encompasses about 199 villages spread throughout these administrative divisions.

The district was renamed from Talung to Prakhon Chai in 1939, marking an important administrative change in the Thai provincial system. This shift reflected a broader reorganization of the region at that time.

Local communities here maintain traditional crafts and cook with jasmine rice and fermented shrimp, which shape daily routines and celebrations. These practices reflect how people stay connected to their surroundings.

The area is relatively flat and accessible by car or motorbike, with local roads connecting all villages. The best time to visit is the cool season from November to February.

Archaeological excavations in the 1960s uncovered Buddhist artifacts from the pre-Angkor period. These discoveries reveal that the area holds important historical evidence for researchers.
