Pua, Administrative district in Nan Province, Thailand
Pua is an administrative district in northern Thailand comprising twelve sub-districts spread across mountainous terrain. The area sits at 743 meters (2,437 feet) elevation on 657 square kilometers of hills, valleys, and forested slopes.
The district emerged from Tai Lue migrations that occurred before Nan city was established in the region. These early settlers formed the foundation for the area to become an important administrative center.
Local markets display traditional Tai Lue textiles made by skilled weavers whose techniques have been passed down through families. These woven fabrics show patterns and colors that reflect the identity of the mountain communities living here.
The district serves as a transportation hub with direct connections to Nan city about 50 kilometers to the south and routes to other areas through mountain passes. Mountain roads are winding, so travelers should allow extra time for journeys through the region.
Farmers in this district have shifted from growing mainly maize to cultivating coffee plants on their land. This change reduces pressure on forest resources while keeping agricultural income stable.
