Dusit Zoo is an animal facility in the district of the same name in the Thai capital, home to species from several continents, including white Bengal tigers, penguins, and different primates. The grounds spread across park-like paths, ponds, and enclosures arranged among old trees and open lawns.
The current site began as a royal private garden during the reign of King Chulalongkorn in the late 19th century. In 1938, this garden area was opened to the public and transformed into the country's first zoological facility.
The facility serves as an educational center where Thai students and families learn about wildlife conservation through hands-on programs and exhibits.
Admission fees differ for Thai citizens and foreign visitors, with separate rates for adults in each group. The paths are mostly flat and pass through shaded areas, suitable for relaxed walks during morning or late afternoon hours.
The facility houses rare Thai brow-antlered deer alongside American alligators and red pandas in neighboring enclosures. This mix of Southeast Asian, North American, and Himalayan animals shows the worldwide collection of the facility in a small area.
