Equestrian statue of King Rama V. at Royal Plaza

The bronze statue portrays King Rama V in military uniform holding reins in his left hand and a baton in his right, mounted on a marble pedestal.

French sculptor Georges Saulo created this monument in Paris during 1908 to commemorate King Rama V's 40th anniversary of ascending to the throne of Siam.

Thai citizens regularly place flowers and offerings at the base of this monument, considering it a spiritual connection to the revered monarch King Rama V.

The statue stands 11 meters tall, combining a 5-meter bronze sculpture weighing 6 tons with a 6-meter marble base at the center of Royal Plaza.

The surplus funds collected from public donations for this statue later established Chulalongkorn University, Thailand's first institution of higher education.
