Sikhio, Administrative district in Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand.
Sikhio is an administrative district in Nakhon Ratchasima that spreads across the Dong Phaya Yen mountain range, encompassing multiple sub-districts with numerous villages scattered throughout. The terrain features moderate elevation with hills and forested areas.
The district was originally known as Mueang Nakhon Chantuek and served as a frontier area between Thai-controlled and Lao-influenced territories until 1898. After this period, the region underwent significant administrative changes.
The district contains ancient cave paintings at Khao Chan Ngam created with a mixture of soil and tree resin, still visible on the rock walls today.
The district is easily accessible through several main road routes and railway connections that simplify travel through the region. Visitors should expect hilly terrain that characterizes the area.
The district's administrative center relocated several times in the early 1900s due to malaria outbreaks before finally settling in Ban Sikhio. These moves reflect the health challenges the region faced.
