Sung Noen, Administrative district in Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand

Sung Noen is an administrative district in Nakhon Ratchasima province spread across rolling terrain divided into eleven subdivisions and numerous villages. The area sits on a plateau and is defined by several water channels running through it.

Two ancient cities, Mueang Sema and Khorakha Pura, stood in this region under Pho Khun Pha Mueang's rule during the Sukhothai Kingdom. These two centers anchored the area's early political structure.

The name Sung Noen means 'high hills' in Thai, referring to two elevated landforms positioned beside a water body. This geographical reference shapes how locals understand and describe their surroundings today.

The district connects to neighboring regions through the Northeastern railway line, a rail connection that has operated since 1901. This route remains the main transportation corridor for transit through the area today.

The remains of Prasat Muang Kao, an ancient Khmer temple, stand within the district and displays architectural features from different periods. This structure demonstrates how various building traditions existed side by side in this region.
